While there is still much more work to be done, it’s clear that Vermont’s environment and communities will benefit from several environmental measures lawmakers approved this year. Mid-Session Legislative Update 2006At this important midway mark in the 2006 legislative session, with the support of activists like those pictured here at the annual Citizen Action Day, many promising initiatives are making their way through the House and Senate. Vermont has the opportunity to take several important steps to ensure our energy independence, protect our fresh water resources, and strengthen our local economies and quality of life. VNRC Leads Successful State House EffortThe 2005 General Assembly finally wrapped up its work in mid-June, passing legislation on a host of environmental issues, including renewable energy and efficiency, mercury pollution, nuclear waste storage, and agricultural runoff. VNRC played a pivotal leadership role across the spectrum of issues, and maintains the only full time presence in the State House dedicated to environmental issues.
