VNRC Motion to Intervene in PSB Proceeding on Vermont Yankee

VNRC moves to intervene in Public Service Board (PSB) Docket 7440, related to the relicensing of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant (Vermont Yankee), specifically to address the recent revelation that Vermont Yankee is leaking tritium from underground pipes into Vermont’s groundwater.  As set forth below, VNRC has been a leader in advocating for the protection of Vermont’s groundwater, including playing a pivotal role in the 2008 declaration by the Vermont Legislature and the State of Vermont that groundwater is a public trust resource.  10 V.S.A. § 1390(2) and (5).  Accordingly VNRC has a substantial interest intervening in this Docket to address the issues related to groundwater contamination.
